What is a public adjuster?

A professional claims handler/ claims adjuster who is employed exclusively by a policyholder and advocates for the policyholder in appraising and negotiating a claimant’s insurance claim. These professionals manage every detail of the claim, working closely with the insured to provide the most equitable and prompt settlement possible.

What does a public adjuster do?

A public adjuster inspects the loss site immediately, analyzes the damages, assembles claim support data, reviews the insured’s coverage, determines current replacement costs and exclusively serves the client, not the insurance company.

What’s the difference between a public adjuster and an independent adjuster?

Public adjuster: Public adjusters work exclusively for policyholders and do not work for insurance companies or have any ties to insurance companies.

Independent adjuster: works under contract for an insurance company. Their job is to represent their employer, only looking out for the rights of the insurance carrier. An independent adjuster does not and cannot work on behalf of an individual insurance policyholder. The stated goal of independent adjusters is to promote the general welfare of the insurance industry.

How does CAS receive payment?

You do not have to put up any retainer or upfront fees.The fee is based on the reasonable compensation on time spent on the claim and expenses incurred by the public adjuster. Fees are paid after settlement is agreed to by client and Public adjuster and payment is collected from the insurance company.
